The Generalitat de Catalunya has announced the renewal and expansion of its medical emergency vehicle fleet, incorporating 439 new ambulances and 1,100 non-urgent transport vehicles, which will be progressively deployed until June across all health regions.

This week, the first units of the new Medical Emergency System (SEM) ambulances have begun operating in the Terres de l’Ebre, marking the beginning of a new phase in emergency care in Catalonia.
The new ambulances feature significant improvements in safety and visibility, notably the green stripes on their sides that ensure greater perception from any angle. Furthermore, they are equipped with advanced medical technology for rapid and accurate in situ diagnosis.
Among the technological innovations are 80 ultrasound scanners and the capability to perform dry analytics. This functionality allows healthcare professionals to obtain basic parameters from a single drop of blood, such as blood loss, the presence of severe infections, or blood PH alterations, facilitating quick and informed medical decisions.
The operational headquarters of the SEM, from where this important renewal is coordinated, is located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, specifically on Granvia, within the premises of the Hospital Duran i Reynals.
