Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the creation of the Spain Grows Fund (Fondo España Crece), a new investment vehicle set to mobilize €120 billion in strategic sectors like housing, energy, and defense.
The new financial instrument is presented as the natural successor to the Next Generation funds, which are scheduled to expire in June 2026. The fund will be coordinated by the Official Credit Institute (ICO) and aims to maintain investment momentum in Spain in strategic areas such as energy, digitalization, and defense.
Although the fund will have an initial base endowment of €10.5 billion from the Recovery Plan, the main goal is to mobilize the total figure of €120 billion through private debt and both national and international investors. This strategy seeks to ensure the continuity of the Executive's roadmap beyond 2026.

"What we want is for the reformist drive to endure beyond 2026. If the NextGen funds were an exercise in European sovereignty, the 'España Crece' Fund will be an exercise in national sovereignty."
The announcement was made during the closing of the XVI edition of the Spain Investors Day Forum (SID). The vehicle will be managed by the ICO, which will co-invest with the private sector through loans, guarantees, and capital instruments, prioritizing sectors key to improving economic productivity.

"We are getting used to systematically being among the best economies on the planet. We have become accustomed to competing in the Champions League season after season."
Addressing foreign investors, the head of the Executive emphasized that Spain has become “a safe asset, a safe haven, where legal uncertainty will not be found,” highlighting the country's social peace and territorial cohesion.
