The Catalan Government approved a €300 million transfer to the Department of Health this week to cover increased expenditure resulting from the impact of Covid-19 on the regional healthcare system.

This significant financial injection originates from the revenues allocated to Catalonia from the state Covid-19 Fund. Its primary goal is to strengthen the funding of the Catalan Health Service (Servei Català de Salut) and the Barcelona Public Health Agency.
The resources will also facilitate the hiring of new personnel, crucial for improving the monitoring and tracing of contagion chains across the entire territory of Catalonia.
This measure follows other recent budget increases financed by the same fund, such as the €20 million allocated to the Department of Enterprise and Knowledge and €6 million for the Department of Culture, approved in previous weeks.
It is worth noting that the Government had already agreed in July to a larger public account increase totaling €1.23 billion, also sourced from the Covid-19 Fund, to replenish emergency spending advanced by departments during the initial months of the health crisis.
