The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, was admitted to Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona on Saturday due to significant leg pain and will remain for two weeks of rehabilitation.

The president had to be treated on Saturday after suffering discomfort while running, requiring an ambulance transfer from an official event in Ascó (Ribera d'Ebre). The medical team, which held a press conference on Sunday, confirmed that Illa cannot walk and that his institutional agenda is suspended during his hospital stay.

"Serious causes have been ruled out, such as a stroke, a tumor, or a vascular problem."

The Head of the Neurology Service, Patricia Pozo, detailed that tests will be performed to diagnose the origin of the “significant inflammatory pain” while he undergoes intensive rehabilitation. Although he was admitted to the ICU as a protocol, his evolution is stable and he is expected to move to a regular floor on Monday, likely in the spinal cord injury area.
The Clinical Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Service, Manel Escobar, confirmed that an MRI and a vascular scan ruled out a “potentially serious” problem. The Head of Rehabilitation, Judith Sánchez, added that Illa is feeling well and has started eating and drinking water.
President Illa thanked the support received via X, assuring that he is “well and in good spirits.” Several political leaders, including the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and representatives from Junts and the PPC (Alejandro Fernández), have sent him messages wishing a speedy recovery.
