The analysis carried out by the RACC compiles data from the last three years and concludes that this corridor concentrates the highest number of motorcycle incidents, surpassing other traditionally problematic routes in the Catalan road network.
This issue is not new. An initial report published back in 2008 already pointed to the exact same stretch as the most accident-prone. Current data confirm the persistence of the situation, despite calls for safety and infrastructure improvements.
Half of all serious and fatal motorcycle accidents in Catalonia occur in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
Motorcyclist accident rates remain a serious concern. Every year, between 40 and 50 motorcyclists lose their lives on the Catalan road network, a figure that keeps experts on high alert.
Regarding the overall Barcelona Metropolitan Region, 2,016 motorcycle and moped accidents were registered during 2024. Although this figure is slightly lower than the previous year, the RACC notes that the general trend of accidents continues to rise, despite remaining below pre-pandemic levels.
