Residents of Barcelona's Zona Universitària are urging the City Council to implement a new pedestrian crossing on Diagonal Avenue, near the Faculty of Economics, to improve access to public facilities.

Diagonal Avenue, specifically in the Zona Universitària area, handles a traffic volume exceeding 50,000 vehicles daily, creating a significant barrier for the nearly 5,000 residents living nearby. The current distance between pedestrian crossings is equivalent to three blocks of the Eixample district.

"I believe this is a minor budget project, yet the service provided is considerable."

The Pedralbes neighborhood lacks nearby public facilities, and essential services such as the primary care center (CAP), the market, and the library are located across the Diagonal, in the Maternitat i Sant Ramon neighborhood. The requested crossing, located near the Faculty of Economics tram stop, would significantly enhance resident mobility.
The Barcelona City Council confirmed that it has studied the feasibility of the request but warns that the intervention is technically complicated. On high-volume, double-direction roads, a greater distance between crossings is required to ensure traffic light synchronization and prevent vehicle accumulation during the signaling cycle.
