The AMB kicked off the 2025 bathing season on May 28 in Sant Adrià de Besòs, reopening the Litoral Beach after four years of decontamination, alongside significant accessibility improvements.
The reopening of the Litoral Beach in Sant Adrià de Besòs, which had been closed for four years due to decontamination tasks, was the central focus of the metropolitan beach campaign launch. The event was attended by Filo Cañete, Mayor of Sant Adrià de Besòs, and Ramon Torra, Manager of the AMB.
“
"today is a very special day for Sant Adrià de Besòs; we are kicking off the 2025 metropolitan beach season with both our beaches 100% operational."
The AMB has prioritized accessibility and inclusion, installing 12 new lines of bathing assistance buoys on the beaches of the Llobregat Delta and Barcelona. Furthermore, access points have been improved with wider walkways, and two new 50 m2 pergolas for adapted access have been added in Barcelona, bringing the total to 16 pergolas across the metropolitan coast.
Promoting sports and healthy habits was also key, with the incorporation of 14 new facilities. Four calisthenics installations have been set up in Sant Adrià de Besòs, Montgat, Gavà, and Viladecans, and ten new volleyball courts, six of which are located in Castelldefels and four in Sant Adrià de Besòs.

"the collaboration between different competent public administrations has allowed the recovery and dignification of this Sant Adrià coastal beach, which takes a step forward after four years closed, but many challenges still lie ahead, such as the Metropolitan Beaches Stabilization Plan."
Despite these advancements, the metropolitan entity insists on the need to address structural sand regression, which has caused the loss of 30,100 m2 of surface area (13%) in the Northern Barcelonès and Baix Maresme areas in four years, according to the latest study presented by the AMB in February. The AMB continues to demand that the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge urgently execute a Stabilization Plan to protect the coastline.
