The Sant Andreu District has unanimously approved renaming the popular Onze de Setembre metro square, which now honors the Avenç de l’Sport club, one of the founders of UESA.

The new name, approved in the District plenary session, arrives in the year celebrating the centenary of the merger that gave life to the Unió Esportiva Sant Andreu (UESA). This initiative, promoted by the Centre d’Estudis Ignasi Iglésias, recovers the memory of one of the two founding clubs of the 'quadribarrat' team.
The square, where the entrance to the Onze de Setembre station (lines L9 and L10) is located, will officially name a space that previously did not appear in the city's street directory. The proposal received support from all municipal groups and a wide range of neighborhood and cultural organizations in Sant Andreu.
Precisely in this sector, between the Onze de Setembre avenue and Virgili street, the first football field in Sant Andreu was located. L’Avenç de l’Sport, founded in 1911, along with L’Andreuenc, played their first matches there before merging in 1925 to found the current UESA, an entity that remained on the same pitch until 1969.
The promotion to Segunda División (Second Division) in 1969 forced the demolition of the field to build the current Narcís Sala stadium. At that time, the first swimming pool for the Club Natació Sant Andreu and a sports center that disappeared in 2006 with the arrival of the metro were also built.
The official inauguration of the new Plaça de l’Avenç de l’Sport will take place on Sunday, December 21 at 3:45 PM, just before the match against Castelló B. The event will feature speeches by representatives of the Centre d’Estudis Ignasi Iglésias, UE Sant Andreu, and the District, as well as a musical performance by the local group Jester.
