Sant Cugat leads Catalan salaries with 54,549 gross euros, double that of Santa Coloma

The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) reveals the enormous salary disparity among Catalan municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants.

According to Idescat data published this week, Sant Cugat del Vallès leads gross salary income in Catalonia with an average of 54,549 euros in 2024, while Santa Coloma de Gramenet is at the bottom.

The Territorial Salary Statistics published by the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) place Sant Cugat del Vallès at the top of municipalities with over 50,000 inhabitants, reporting an average gross salary of 54,549 euros in 2024. This figure exceeds the second on the list, Castelldefels (38,570 euros), and Barcelona (36,466 euros), by more than 15,000 euros. At the opposite end, the lowest incomes are registered in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (26,003 euros), L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (26,638 euros), and Reus (26,922 euros).
The difference between the highest and lowest-earning municipality exceeds 28,500 euros. Regarding salary growth compared to 2023, Sant Cugat del Vallès (5.9%), Mollet del Vallès (5.7%), and Granollers (5.6%) lead the increases, nearly three points above the Catalan average (3.0%). The only exception is Manresa, which registers a slight decrease of 0.1%.
The data also reflects a significant gender pay gap. In Catalonia, men earn 34,473 gross euros and women 28,765 euros. This disparity is particularly pronounced in Sant Cugat, where men earn 63,625 euros and women 45,705 euros, a difference of nearly 20,000 euros. In Castelldefels, the difference stands at 10,500 euros.
By sector, the highest gross salary incomes are found in Communications, financial and real estate activities (45,469 euros) and in Public Administration, Defense, and compulsory Social Security (38,544 euros). Finally, permanent contracts (31,804 euros) exceed temporary ones (25,788 euros), and full-time employment (34,171 euros) substantially surpasses part-time employment (18,703 euros).
