Rodalies users obtain free pass, but complain it does not compensate for the chaos

The measure, valid until February 24, allows users to get 10-trip passes at vending machines in the Sants station.

Rodalies passengers in Catalonia began obtaining the new free 10-trip passes on Tuesday at stations like Sants, although the measure does not satisfy all those affected by the railway chaos.

Following a week of serious incidents on the Rodalies network, the railway system has implemented free travel, at least for one month. This Tuesday, at Sants station, four Renfe informers helped users obtain the free 10-trip passes at the vending machines, a process employees described as "quite intuitive."
The free pass is valid for all Rodalies lines and is available until February 24. It is a classic cardboard ticket, unlike the NFC technology used by T-Mobilitat, which must be inserted into the turnstiles. Although the ticket includes 10 trips, it is multi-personal, and additional free passes can be acquired once the first ones are used up.

"I took the free pass because I have already spent 25 euros on railway tickets. This pass does not compensate me, but it is better than nothing."

The agreement between the Spanish Government and the Generalitat de Catalunya also includes reinforcing Medium Distance lines between Barcelona-Sants, Camp de Tarragona, and Lleida-Pirineus, which will run on High-Speed tracks. These special free services require prior seat reservation, as regular Medium Distance passes are not valid for them.

"It's a disgrace. What good is the free ticket if the trains don't run? The other day I was waiting two hours to get home."
