The historic underground electrical cabling project in Torre Baró (Barcelona) has begun with an investment of 4 million euros, generating satisfaction but also concern among residents over excluded sections.

Loli Romero, a resident of Avinguda d’Escolapi Càncer, emotionally celebrated the start of the underground electrical wiring works, a historic demand from the neighborhood. The initial project, financed with 4 million, will focus on this avenue and Carrer de Llerona, with an estimated duration of one year and eight phases.

"We have become accustomed to walking with a flashlight down the street or going around the neighborhood to access home through other areas that do have light."

Despite the general happiness, five properties on Avinguda d’Escolapi Càncer, including Loli Romero's, have been left out of this first phase. Residents report living in darkness due to constant cable theft and that the photovoltaic streetlights installed as a pilot test do not work correctly due to the street's narrow layout.
Valeria Ortiz, president of the Associació de Veïns de Torre Baró, expressed her confusion regarding the exclusion of this section, although the City Council insists that the global project includes the entire neighborhood. Mayor Collboni has announced an additional 10 million euros for future phases, to be executed in the next term, with the goal of removing all poles.

"I hope to be alive to see it all finished."
