The Berga City Council issued an alert this Thursday regarding a new wave of phone scams impersonating the council's identity to fraudulently demand the payment of municipal taxes.

This fraud, known as vishing, involves scammers posing as municipal staff and contacting victims via phone calls and WhatsApp messages. The goal is to obtain personal or banking data under the pretense of collecting the IBI (Property Tax) or the garbage fee.
Following the initial call, the criminals send a WhatsApp message providing a bank account number for the victim to deposit the supposed debt. This type of deception was previously detected in the municipality in March of last year.

The Berga City Council and the Tax Management Body never use these channels to demand the collection of municipal taxes.

In case of any doubt or suspicion of fraud, the council asks citizens to immediately contact the Berga City Council (93 821 43 33), the Local Police (93 821 04 27), or the Mossos d’Esquadra (112 / 93 881 57 85).
