The Berga City Council plenary session in February debated the recurring problem of weekend traffic collapses, where Mayor Ivan Sànchez proposed an alternative solution to the one suggested by the PSC.

The debate on traffic management during weekend exit operations was a central point of the February municipal plenary session in Berga City Council. The PSC highlighted the need for urgent measures to prevent the collapses affecting the city.
The Mayor, Ivan Sànchez, thanked the PSC for their proposal but expressed his preference for a different strategy. While the PSC focuses on closing southern entrances, Sànchez leans towards focusing on the city's northbound exits, arguing that this protects the internal mobility of residents.

"My proposal, which I have already put forward, is not to close the entrances, but the northbound exits. The collapse will be monumental, whatever we do, for the first few days, but with this, we would ensure that no resident of Berga or the region is harmed."

This measure, according to the mayor, would allow “all residents of Berga and the region to enter the city without problems, whether they come from the north or the south.” Furthermore, he believes it would discourage drivers from circulating through the city center to bypass the main road queues.
A key obstacle is the limitation of municipal jurisdiction. The City Council can only act on streets under its ownership, being able to close the entrance at the LIDL roundabout at most. Any comprehensive solution requires the involvement of Trànsit (Traffic Authority), as the main routes, such as the southern entrance near the Berga Resort campsite or the access from the Olvan roundabout, fall under its jurisdiction.
The mayor committed to the PSC councilor, Marc Ortega, to inform the opposition about the results of imminent meetings with the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) and the Local Police, where possible formulas for addressing the traffic problem will be studied.
