The Minister of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, has expressed the Government's satisfaction with the final version of the 2030 Electric Plan, presented by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. This plan incorporates most of the demands made by the Generalitat, aligning with the country's industrial, environmental, and social objectives.
"We have achieved a Plan that is historic for advancing towards the ultimate goal of decarbonization," stated Minister Paneque. She added, "There is a before and after in the electrical sector: the country will have access to a power capacity in megawatts that multiplies exponentially and is what we need."
The definitive version of the 2030 Plan includes key actions for the development of Central Catalonia. At the proposal of the Generalitat, the new 400 kV Cardener substation is planned, which will strengthen the electrical distribution network of Bages and enable the electrification of industrial demand. This substation will also facilitate the connection of a reversible hydroelectric power plant, adding robustness to the Catalan electrical system.
In response to the Government's allegations, the Cercs substation (220 kV) will also be expanded to support the distribution network and supply the industrial park of Olvan, addressing historical demands from the Bages region. Furthermore, the Pierola substation (400 kV) will be expanded to reinforce the network in northern Baix Llobregat and improve supply reliability in Anoia and parts of Lleida.
The 2030 Electric Plan establishes the development of the electricity transport network to meet the needs of the entire State. After incorporating the Generalitat's allegations to the ministry's proposal from October 2025, it designs for Catalonia a network capable of meeting industrial and residential demand, as well as energy transition and decarbonization goals.
On a general level, the 2030 Plan includes actions to supply energy to the new Girona Health Campus and the Clínic-UB Health Campus in Barcelona, promote the electrification of the petrochemical complex in Tarragona, supply the Torreblanca-Quatre Pilans industrial sector in Lleida, support water transition initiatives, and enhance the quality and resilience of the overall electrical system.
