The Mayor of Cercs, Urbici Malagarriga, has sent a formal letter to the Ministry of Territory demanding immediate measures to reduce the high accident rate on the C-16, following the tragic death of two minors on December 29.

The protest by the Cercs Town Council follows the confirmation of the death of the second of two brothers, aged 4 and 5, who were involved in a head-on collision at kilometer point 101 of the Eix del Llobregat. The parents, a couple from Mallorca, remain hospitalized with serious injuries at the Hospital de la Vall d'Hebron and the Mútua de Terrassa.
Mayor Urbici Malagarriga addressed the letter to the Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, and the director of the Catalan Traffic Service, Ramon Lamiel, to request concrete solutions for kilometer points 101 and 106.9, which have concentrated the latest serious accidents on the road.

"There has been so much talk about duplication that the maintenance of the road has ended up being abandoned."

The council's proposals do not involve major construction works, but rather simple fixes that could save lives. In the case of kilometer 101, Malagarriga suggests extending the guardrail separating the two directions of traffic by 200 meters, in addition to installing anti-slip asphalt and new signage to reduce speed.
These two points are particularly dangerous because they allow vehicles traveling south at inappropriate speeds to lose control and invade the northbound lane. It should be noted that, in addition to the accident on December 29, a 59-year-old woman, a resident of Barcelona, died at the same kilometer point 101 on March 1 of last year.
