Minister of Territory Sílvia Paneque announced this Friday in Bagà that the long-awaited expansion of the C-16 highway will finally commence in autumn 2027 through a private partnership.

The project, estimated to cost between 470 and 500 million euros, will be managed under a 31-year concession. Abertis has already submitted a proposal to lead the construction. This approach aims to solve two decades of delays and improve safety on a road known for frequent accidents and weekend traffic jams in the Berguedà region.
Key features of the new design include a continuous bike lane from Berga to Bagà and a new access point for the town of Cercs. The infrastructure will feature a mix of 2+2 lanes and 2+1 sections with mobile barriers, ensuring a safer and more efficient connection to the Pyrenees.
