The incident occurred at 2,400 meters of altitude, in an area that Masip knew well and had frequented recently. The young woman shared the video on Instagram to raise awareness about the dangers of the mountain, even in areas that appear safe.
“"It is a very well-known place for me. This year I had skied down 7 or 8 times. And of the last 5 days, today was the third time."
The skier explained that several factors, such as the risk marked by the BPA (risk 1–2) and the presence of fresh tracks, led her to overestimate safety, falling into what she calls a “heuristic trap.”
It's not that the conditions were safe, it's that they seemed safe. But it is worth remembering that risk 0 simply does not exist.
Masip concluded her message by stressing that the experience resulted in a scare and a personal lesson, hoping it will help other skiers “not to let their guard down in a 'trusted' place.”
