This year's edition of La Corrida will maintain its scale, expecting 40 carriages and between 100 and 110 animals (horses, donkeys, and ponies). However, the organization implemented a significant change to cut costs. The president of the La Corrida Association, Joan Soler, explained that they stopped renting horses from a private center due to constant price increases, opting instead to source animals from private owners in Bages and Berguedà, covering expenses such as transport or lunch.
“"La Corrida gathers local tradition and identity. It is the festival that the residents of Puig-reig are most proud of and which has been celebrated for over 125 years."
The Mayor of Puig-reig, Eva Serra, highlighted the patrimonial and identity value of the celebration, which revolves around Sant Antoni Abat. Serra stressed that the festival showcases the trades and customs of the rural world, allowing the community to connect with the municipality's roots and strengthening social cohesion with the participation of over 100 collaborators.
The central event will be the parade of carriages and horses on Sunday, January 18, starting at 11:30 AM from the football field. This will be accompanied by giants, grallers (traditional musicians), the Municipal Music School Band, and the Cobla Berga Jove. TV3 journalist Carles Prats will be the Guest of Honor. This year's three flag bearers are Carme Rosell Noguera (horses), Francesca Dolla Capellas (mules), and Aina Pareja Torres (donkeys).
The programming begins on Friday, January 16, with the Children's Corrida, dedicated to the town's youth. This smaller-scale parade will include six carriages and about twenty ponies and donkeys, in addition to the traditional Ribbon Game (Joc de les Cintes). Scarves from La Corrida will also be presented to the 22 babies born in Puig-reig in 2025. On Saturday, January 17, the Horse March and the Family Corrida activities will take place.
