Farmers belonging to the Revolta Pagesa lifted the C-16 blockade in Berguedà on the afternoon of January 12, after five days of protest, having secured the direct commitment of President Salvador Illa to their demands.
The farmers' assembly gathered in Olvan unanimously agreed to end the mobilization that had kept the highway blocked for almost a week. This decision followed the meeting between sector representatives and the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, and the Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig, at Palau.
“
"These have been very tough days, but if the commitments are fulfilled, it will have been worth it."
The representative of Revolta Pagesa, Jordi Aguilera, expressed the sector's satisfaction that Illa had adopted the commitments previously made by Ordeig. This assumption was one of the key demands of the demonstrators, who sought the direct involvement of the presidency.
“
"We leave satisfied because Illa has adopted Ordeig's commitments to the sector. And, from now on, we will start the working groups and direct monitoring for the allocation of resources to the sector and the minimization of the impact of the EU-Mercosur agreement."
Despite the expressed confidence, the agricultural sector issued a warning: if tangible results from the negotiation tables are not seen within three weeks, the farmers “will return to the streets”. Illa, for his part, stressed that the defense of the agricultural sector is a priority axis for the Government.
