The Catalan Transit Service confirmed this Tuesday the upcoming implementation of an average speed camera on the C-16 highway in Cercs, following a series of recent accidents.

The decision follows an increase in road incidents in this area of the Berguedà region. Ramon Lamiel, director of Trànsit, stated that the measure addresses a formal request from the Cercs Town Council to enhance safety on this stretch of road.

"The average speed camera will encourage lower speeds, which will significantly reduce road accidents."

While the permanent system will take a few months to be fully operational, the Generalitat has planned an immediate intervention. In coordination with the Mossos d'Esquadra police, orange boxes for mobile radars will be deployed to ensure an instant impact on driver behavior.
