Under the new health model, professionals will no longer be tied to a specific center but will belong to a territory. The goal is to address the shortage of healthcare workers, particularly outside the Barcelona metropolitan area. The existing link between the Althaia Foundation in Manresa and Berga Hospital has been highlighted as the model to follow.
“"We cannot maintain 68 hospitals and have them compete with each other to find professionals. If Vic Hospital competes with Campdevànol to find doctors, the former will win."
Currently, specialists from Althaia already travel to Berguedà, Solsonès, and Cerdanya for consultations. This collaboration has allowed for unified services in Surgery in Berga, and Mental Health, Pharmacy, and Dialysis in Puigcerdà. Similarly, hospitals like Sant Pau in Barcelona provide high-complexity services in Manresa.
The Director General of Health Planning, Aina Plaza, confirmed that the Cerdanya Transfrontier Hospital will maintain its unique characteristics. The plan aims to prevent the closure of small centers by concentrating services and creating incentives for professionals working in integrated health areas.
