The Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, recently announced from Bagà that the dual carriageway of the C-16 between Berga and Bagà will become a reality starting in 2027. This statement has generated skepticism, as the improvement of this infrastructure has been a recurring promise by various governments and ministers over the years.
The history of this project dates back to 2009, when Joaquim Nadal assured that the works, with an investment of 635 million euros, would begin in 2010. However, these works never materialized. Subsequently, in 2014, Santi Vila proposed an alternative and more economical solution: the third reversible lane, with a cost of 100 million euros and an expected operational date of 2017, which also did not come to fruition.
The list of promises continues with Damià Calvet, who in 2019 promised a hybrid model that, it was announced, would go ahead with works starting in 2020. Despite the announcements, this project also did not see the light of day. More recently, in 2024, Ester Capella promised the construction of five new tunnels and a viaduct in Cercs, joining the long list of ministers who have made similar announcements, such as Recoder, Rull, Puigneró, and Fernández.
The repetition of these announcements without the works having started has generated a sense of distrust among the inhabitants of Berguedà, who are waiting to finally see the dual carriageway of the C-16 become a reality.
