The route chosen by the victim is classified as AD+ (Assegurat Difícil), a level requiring significant expertise. This path is one of the historic routes of Pedraforca and is commonly used for high-level winter ascents. At the time of the accident, the young man was practicing free solo climbing, moving without ropes or fixed protection.
Mountain experts point out that weather conditions this February have been particularly treacherous. The mix of hard and soft snow, caused by rising temperatures, may have made the surface unstable where the climber placed his ice axes. The timing of the ascent, after 4:00 PM, also worked against him as the sun had been softening the snow all day.
Search teams located the body at 1:00 AM on Wednesday, following a missing person report filed the previous evening. The remains were found at the base of the couloir, confirming a fall from a significant height in an area completely covered by snow.
