The initiative, organized by the Sports Department of the Gironella City Council, aimed to encourage sports practice, promote an active and healthy lifestyle, and combat sedentary habits among the municipality's elderly residents.
Over two weeks, participants enjoyed a varied sports program including Catalan bowling, paddle tennis, Nordic walking, table tennis, petanque, athletics, and archery. The Grand Olympic Games are consolidating as a popular event for the elderly, demonstrating that physical activity can be enjoyed at any age.
The closing ceremony, held on Friday, was attended by the mayor of Gironella, David Font, and the Councilor for the Elderly, Ramona Sàez. Medals were awarded to all participants, and the event concluded with a reception at the municipal pool bar.
These games are part of the activities organized around the Senior Citizens' Day. The program concluded on Sunday, October 4th, with the Senior Citizens' Day celebration, featuring a mass at the parish church, a sardana dance in the Plaça de la Vila, a fellowship lunch at the Espai el Blat, and a musical performance by the Esbart Sant Jordi.
