The La Nou de Berguedà Town Hall, led by Mayor Josep Maria Peixó, has replaced the official coat of arms with a new graphic brand without the mural crown, citing aesthetic criteria and an explicit protest against the actions of the Crown and the Spanish State.

The change, approved by the municipal plenary in 2025, responds to the local government's desire to create its own brand instead of initiating the "very complex and slow" process of modifying the official coat of arms, which requires approval from the Generalitat. This new image is already being progressively incorporated into posters and administrative documentation.

"We wanted to remove it in protest against the actions of the Spanish Crown and the Spanish State. The reference to the Spanish crown is there, and we did not like the crown."

The new brand maintains the traditional rhombus structure but with more rounded shapes. The sword (symbol of Saint Martin and protection) and the episcopal mitres (referencing ecclesiastical influence) have been stylized, adjusting the purple color towards a pinker hue.
The absence of the mural crown, which formally identifies a municipality in Catalan heraldry, turns the symbol into a graphic brand of the council and not an official heraldic coat of arms. Mayor Peixó confirmed that, despite maintaining the registered official coat of arms, "we do not use the official coat of arms."
