The improvement works at the Cortal d’en Vidal refuge were carried out after the space was repeatedly vandalized, including forced doors, graffiti, and broken windows. This situation forced the governing team of the Urús City Council to intervene to restore the damage and establish a new regulatory framework.
“"What we agreed was to make a semi-closed refuge, meaning you bring your ID, a deposit, and collect the keys. But to reach this point we have suffered unspeakable things, because when we were installing the windows, the next day they would break them."
Starting in the spring, users wishing to access the refuge must contact the council, collect the keys, and leave a deposit of 150 euros, established through a municipal ordinance. This amount will be returned once it has been verified that the equipment has not suffered any damage during the stay.
To reinforce security in the area, the council plans to install surveillance cameras in collaboration with the Paisatges Vius entity. The refuge improvement works involved an investment of about 20,000 euros, financed entirely by the Urús City Council.
The municipality of Urús also has the Pleta dels Ordiassos refuge, intended exclusively for livestock use. The council has detected that this refuge is also being misused and does not rule out taking similar measures in the future.
