The Emergency Medical System (SEM) has established a new ambulance waiting point in Martinet de Cerdanya, aiming to optimize emergency response in the Baixa Cerdanya and Alt Urgell regions.

The latter half of August marked the launch of this new healthcare resource, located at the former slaughterhouse in the municipality of Montellà i Martinet. The Town Council has leased the building for a five-year contract with CatSalut, while the SEM has undertaken the refurbishment and technical equipment.
The mayor, Roser Bombardó, welcomed the initiative, emphasizing inter-administrative collaboration. The unit has already proven its utility, being activated between seven and eight times during August and September, with up to two dispatches on a single day.
This strategic point is part of the new emergency transport model for the Alt Pirineu i Aran region. It aims to enhance territorial coverage and reduce response times through dynamic ambulance positioning at key points along the Pyrenean road network, particularly during peak demand hours.
The new vehicles are equipped with advanced technology, including the capability for on-site ultrasounds and blood analyses, thereby expediting medical diagnosis before hospital arrival.
This enhancement in Martinet complements other improvements in the region, such as extended operating hours for the ambulance in Bellver de Cerdanya and the option for residents of Montellà i Martinet and Lles de Cerdanya to freely choose between the Hospital de Cerdanya (Puigcerdà) and the Fundació Sant Hospital (la Seu d'Urgell) as their reference hospital since February.
