In the year 2025, Catalonia has 1,574,057 individuals receiving contributory pensions from Social Security, representing a 1% increase compared to the previous year. According to data from the Institut d’Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat), this rise is evident in all regions of the Alt Pirineu i Aran, with Cerdanya experiencing the most significant growth at 2.7%.
Breaking down by Pyrenean regions, Alt Urgell has 4,500 pensioners (with a 0.4% increase), Pallars Jussà totals 3,255 (a 1.1% rise), Cerdanya counts 3,016 (a 2.7% increase), the Val d'Aran reaches 1,652 (a 2.0% rise), Pallars Sobirà has 1,356 (a 2.2% increase), and Alta Ribagorça records 777 pensioners (a 1.7% increase).
In relative terms to the population, Pallars Jussà stands out as the Pyrenean region with the highest proportion of pensioners, accounting for 23.9% of its total inhabitants. In contrast, Cerdanya (15.0%) and the Aran (15.5%) show the lowest percentages.
At the Catalan level, approximately one in every four pensioners receives over 2,000 euros gross per month. 40% of pensioners earn between 1,001 and 2,000 euros, while 32.9% receive an amount equal to or less than 1,000 euros.
In the Pyrenean vegueria, the average contributory pension received amounts to the following monthly figures: Val d'Aran (1,474 euros), Pallars Jussà (1,417 euros), Alta Ribagorça (1,411 euros), Pallars Sobirà (1,348 euros), Cerdanya (1,320 euros), and Alt Urgell (1,291 euros).
