The Pirineu Viu platform issued a statement this March opposing the C-16 highway expansion between Berga and Bagà, arguing the project prioritizes mass tourism over local needs.

According to the organization, the plan backed by the Generalitat and the Berguedà authorities reinforces a model based on urban speculation. They claim the road is designed to facilitate weekend travel from Barcelona rather than serving the daily mobility of Cerdanya residents.

"More road capacity means more cars, more tourism pressure, more dependence on second homes, and more real estate speculation."

The group suggests that the 500 million euro investment should be redirected toward improving public services and local transport between mountain villages. They call for a shift away from the 'construction and tourism' economy toward a more resilient local model.
