The social and environmental platform Pirineu Viu has voiced its rejection of the C-16 highway expansion between Berga and Bagà, claiming it will worsen traffic congestion and tourism pressure.

The group argues that the 500-million-euro project, recently announced by the Government, is designed to facilitate the flow of visitors from Barcelona to the Cerdanya region rather than addressing local daily needs. They warn that increasing road capacity will only attract more cars and reinforce a model based on mass tourism.

"Instead of allocating 500 million euros to expand the C-16 to bring more tourists, these resources should be used to improve mobility between mountain villages."

Pirineu Viu is calling on local mayors in the Berguedà and Cerdanya areas to form a united front against the project. They advocate for a new economic model focused on social and environmental resilience instead of urban speculation.
