The event presented six musical offerings with international and high-level national performers. Artistic director Laia Martin believes that centralizing concerts into one weekend could be a formula to repeat in future editions, making it a benchmark date for quality chamber music.
The performances began on Friday with a concert by Ainhoa Pla at the Museu Cerdà. On Saturday, the music moved to the Casino Ceretà with the ensemble 'Una cosa rara', featuring Carlos Moliners, Naüm Monterde, and Oriol Garcia on clarinets. A performance was also enjoyed at Cafè Saumell, inspired by early 20th-century Cuban bars, described by Martin as "very varied, very entertaining, and with a beautiful staging".
The festival concludes this Sunday at 9 PM with the 'Km 0' concert by La Sonsoni, consisting of Elies Porter and Pep Lizandra. They will present their debut album, "Muntanyes de Vida", which addresses the changes experienced by mountain villages in recent years.
The Puigcerdà Music Festival has a long history, born in 1998 by cellist and conductor Dmitry Yablonsky and his mother, pianist Oxana Yablonskaya. After disappearing around 2010, it was revived in 2013 by pianist Laia Martin and violinist Janna Gandelman, with support from the Diputació de Girona, becoming part of the Summercourse of Excellence until 2019.
Following the pandemic, the festival focused exclusively on concerts. Currently, it has been organized for three years by the Associació Grup Recerca de Cerdanya under the same artistic direction.
