The primary objective of this initiative is to bring order to parking and bolster safety, particularly during periods of high tourist and second-home resident influx. Mayor Ramon Chia noted that the new area was developed on a previously unused green space in the village center.
The council's investment to prepare the land amounted to 48,000 euros. Instead of asphalt, the area was constructed using wooden sleepers and gravel, aligning with the village's aesthetic. This approach had previously proven successful in a ten-space pilot test in the La Closa area.
The new parking zone features 46 regular spaces and two designated for individuals with reduced mobility, accessible from two points. The mayor expressed confidence that this measure will deter drivers from parking improperly on sidewalks, thereby avoiding potential fines.
Height restrictors set at 2.10 meters will be installed shortly to prevent motorhomes from parking in this area. With this development, Queixans now offers nearly sixty new free parking spaces.
