The Alt Pirineu i Aran Health Region confirmed that local clinics can now refer patients to specialists in either facility. This decision follows requests from local authorities to adapt healthcare services to the geographical reality and daily dynamics of these Cerdanya municipalities.
While specialist appointments are now flexible, diagnostic imaging services will temporarily remain centralized at the La Seu d'Urgell hospital. Health officials are working to expand these services to Puigcerdà shortly as part of the new Catalan Health System Map, which aims to improve territorial equity across 30 integrated health areas.
