The Cerdanya Regional Archive has completed the restoration of the Puigcerdà Sèquia Privilege Book, a historical document owned by the Puigcerdà City Council dating back to the 14th century.

The volume, which records the management and conflicts related to the irrigation channel over the centuries, includes original documents from 1318, the year King Sanç of Mallorca granted the privilege of the sèquia to the town and regulated its operation. The Archive's director, Erola Simon, highlights the uniqueness of the piece and its importance in understanding the sèquia's role in Puigcerdà's history, especially after the border division in 1659.
Restorer Clara Alibés detailed the conservation process, which included cleaning, reinforcing pages with Japanese paper, and repairing the 18th-century parchment binding. The covers had broken, and the most exposed pages were in a delicate state, affected by humidity and light.
The Puigcerdà sèquia is a medieval hydraulic infrastructure still in use, initially designed for the royal mills. The territorial division following the Treaty of the Pyrenees led to conflicts, such as the ten-year supply cut by the French in the 17th century. The Treaty of Bayonne in 1868 regulated the use of waters and established the Administrative Commission of the Puigcerdà Canal, an organization that still manages the sèquia today.
