Authorities in Blancafort, accompanied by the Vice President of the Parliament, Raquel Sans, inaugurated the new climate refuge and the remodeled recreation area in Plaça Portell on Sunday.

The event began at 12 p.m. with an institutional reception at the Town Hall and culminated with the unveiling of the inaugural plaque in Plaça Portell. The climate refuge is a closed, air-conditioned room, equipped with tables and chairs, integrated within the same recreational space.

The objective is to offer a safe and comfortable space during episodes of extreme temperatures, both in summer and winter, for all citizens.

This action was carried out thanks to a grant from the Government of the Generalitat linked to climate change mitigation policies. Although the works finished in June, the opening had been delayed to previously approve the ordinance for the use of the room.
In parallel, the intervention served to remodel the park's recreation area. A new swing was installed, tables, benches, and bins were renewed, and the wooden fence was replaced by an iron one, improving the safety and durability of the space.
The total cost of the project, including both the climate refuge and the park improvement, was 118,000 euros, fully financed by the Generalitat de Catalunya. With this opening, Blancafort gains a new neighborhood meeting point.
