Government and Montblanc fight to prevent International Paper plant closure

The Minister of Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper, met this evening in Montblanc with municipal representatives to discuss the potential closure of International Paper, affecting 200 workers.

The meeting at Montblanc City Hall included the director general of labor relations, Núria Gilgado. Authorities are seeking solutions for the factories in Montblanc and Valls following the company's announcement to cease operations.

"We will try to use all possible avenues to avoid the closure."

The Government is considering reindustrialization by transferring the production unit to another operator. Sàmper noted that talks have not been positive so far, but a new meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.
