The works, which lasted two weeks, address a historical demand from the sports clubs in Montblanc. The old parquet, installed 21 years ago when the pavilion opened, suffered from severe termite and humidity problems.
A synthetic floor has now been installed, which will not only prevent humidity issues but also improve sports practice. Furthermore, the works included expanding the court area by removing the surrounding fence, benefiting five-a-side football and transversal basketball.
“"We are very happy with the result; now we have the floor that Montblanc deserves. Now, together, we must take care of it so that it has a much longer durability."
With the inauguration of the new floor, the City Council has established stricter access measures to ensure its longevity. An entry circuit passing through the changing rooms has been defined, and appropriate footwear that has not been worn outside will be mandatory on the court.
The new surface will officially debut on December 29 and 30 during the traditional Christmas five-a-side football and basketball tournaments. Basketball, football, and volleyball teams will be able to resume regular training after Three Kings Day.
