Daniel Genís Wins Ictineu Award for Best Fantasy Novel

The novel 'El dimoni abans de nosaltres' receives the main award at the eighteenth edition of the prizes held in Vilanova i la Geltrú.

The novel El dimoni abans de nosaltres, by Daniel Genís, has been recognized with the prestigious Ictineu Award for best original fantasy novel in Catalan.

Genís's work, published by Males Herbes, won in the main category of the awards, which are celebrating their eighteenth edition this year. The Ictineu Awards recognize the best fantasy works published in Catalan during the previous year, expanding this year to ten categories.
The award ceremony took place in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Garraf), as part of the eighth edition of Catcon, the Catalan convention for fantastic genres organized by the Societat Catalana de Ciència Ficció i Fantasia (SCCFF), which gathered nearly 300 attendees.
Other awardees include Anna Starobínets, recognized for the best translated fantasy novel with El gual de la guilla. Laura Tomàs received two accolades: one for the short story Ada o l’origen de les flors and another for the collection Matermorfosis, named best original fantasy compilation.
In the young adult category, Ivan Ledesma was awarded for Alexia King i les muntanyes congelades més enllà de l’armari, while Més enllà de la mar més blava, by T.J. Klune, was named best translated young adult novel.
Regarding comics, Nausicaä de la Vall del Vent, by Hayao Miyazaki, was honored. The essay Leviatans contra Franco, by Lluc Casals, received recognition in its category, and Raül Grabau was presented with the award for best fantasy illustration for the cover of Quan la Terra es pon.
