Major engineering works in the Garraf tunnels commenced this Monday, triggering a complex alternative transport plan for thousands of commuters traveling between Tarragona and Barcelona.

The Renfe operation involves replacing trains with buses on several stretches, particularly affecting the R2 South and Regional lines. While Tarragona station reported relative calm with 15-minute delays, Sant Vicenç de Calders has become a major hub for shuttle buses heading to El Prat.

"There is a lack of information for users both in the stations and on the train loudspeakers."

In coastal towns like Cunit and Calafell, reinforced bus services managed to handle the morning rush without major incidents. However, travelers using the inland route via Vilafranca face journeys up to 40 minutes longer than usual during this three-month construction period.
