Addressing a packed Plaça de l’Ajuntament, Puighibet Masó, who described herself as a "celebrating Sitges resident," emphasized that the public is the essence that gives meaning to all the events of the Major Festival. Her speech reviewed the most emblematic moments of the celebration from the perspective of attendees, including the Entrada de Grallers, the exhibitions at l'Hort de Can Falç, the civic procession, and the fireworks.
The godmother recalled the importance of family and friends for intensely experiencing the central days of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla. She described the Sant Bartomeu procession from its start at El Cable, passing through Cap de la Vila and Passeig, to its arrival at Baluard, experiencing the satisfaction of celebrating the festival as a resident of Sitges.
“"Every year is the best Major Festival"
As a "celebrator," Puighibet Masó offered 800 cans of cava to the public for a toast to the festival and shared a video on social media.
The Mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell Abella, expressed her satisfaction with the female prominence in the festival, including the godmother and the poster's author, and defended the civic nature of the celebration against "those who do not want it to be so".
Meanwhile, the president of the Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla Commission, Xavier Salmerón Carbonell, called for defending the Major Festival against "hate speech" and thanked the Commission members for their work during his two-year term.
The official events continued at La Plaça (La Torreta) with a performance by the local rumba group La Caleta.
