The band Sopa de Cabra celebrated four decades of their career last night on the main stage of the Festival Terramar CaixaBank with a concert that confirmed the enduring relevance of one of Catalan music's essential bands. Forty years later, their songs continue to speak for themselves.
The concert featured 24 songs that demonstrated the connection power of Sopa de Cabra's repertoire with the audience. The band opened with tracks like “Si et va bé”, “El carrer dels torrats”, and “No vull canviar de pell”, alternating different moments of their career. Gerard Quintana, at the center of the stage, led the live performance, constantly interacting with an audience that had made the songs their own.
Alongside Gerard Quintana, Josep Thió (guitar and vocals) and Pep Bosch (drums) were key members. The band was completed by Jaume “Peck” Soler (guitar), Valen Nieto (musical director and multi-instrumentalist), Miki Santamaria (bass), Oest de Franc (guitar), and Beth Rodergas (vocals, backing vocals, and percussion). A broader vocal architecture and three guitars gave power and nuance to the repertoire.
The night continued with songs like “El boig”, “Nits de glòria”, “Sents”, “Els teus somnis”, “Hores bruixes”, and “Cercles”. In the final stretch, “Mai trobaràs”, “Sota una estrella”, and “No tinguis pressa” preceded “L’Empordà”, which became a grand collective performance. The concert concluded with “Tot queda igual”, “El far del sud”, “Podré tornar enrere”, and “Camins”, highlighting the band's long journey.
The day also included a performance by PAAU, Pau Montoliu's project, as part of the Imprescindibles (Essentials) series, showcasing emerging talent from the Culture Department of the Sitges City Council. PAAU presented their take on reggaeton.
Today, August 12th, marks the festival's final night. The closing act will be God Save The Queen, a tribute to Queen. Additionally, within the Imprescindibles series, soloist Lucía Durán and pianist Gerard Ibáñez will present a pop and ballad performance.
