The celebration of the International Day for LGBTI+ Liberation arrives in Vilanova i la Geltrú with events recalling the day and focusing on the new regulatory framework for the community. This Saturday, in front of various town halls, a manifesto has been read emphasizing the importance of this date.
The manifesto highlighted the approval late last year of a new law aimed at defending the rights of LGBTI+ individuals and eradicating discrimination. This legislation places Catalonia and Spain among leading countries in advancing these social rights. However, it is stressed that days like this are essential to show that social rights require constant defense, also acknowledging the historical struggle of entities and individuals to achieve them.
Locally, the Integral Attention Service in Vilanova has handled nearly 200 requests since its launch in 2017, offering diverse advice to the community. The manifesto also pointed out the gap between legal advancements achieved and the daily reality experienced on the streets.
