Minister Òscar Ordeig visited the Olivella Town Hall this Friday, where he met with municipal representatives to discuss the municipality's forest management and fire prevention efforts. The meeting also served to address the needs of local farmers, particularly concerning agricultural holdings and farmhouses.
Following an institutional welcome and the signing of the Book of Honor, accompanied by Mayor Marta Verdejo and Councilor Olga Martín, among other representatives, the minister met with the mayor and the municipal environmental technician. Discussions focused on forest management and fire prevention actions, such as maintaining perimeter strips.
Due to its location within the Garraf Natural Park, Olivella is considered a high-risk area for forest fires. Since 2018, the Town Hall has annually maintained perimeter strips around its developments, a practice extended to the urban center starting in 2023.
The current service, planned for the 2024-2026 period, covers various developments including Plana Novella, Mas Mestre, Can Surià, Las Colinas, Mas Milà, and the old town. Activities include pruning, brush clearing, and shredding of vegetation.
Beyond forest management, the project also functions as a job integration program for individuals facing challenges in accessing the labor market, referred by Olivella's Social Services. The team comprises four workers and includes public awareness initiatives on fire prevention.
