The Garrigues Regional Council has implemented an 18% increase in waste management fees for 2026 to cover the costs of the new door-to-door collection system.

Total revenue is expected to reach 1.8 million euros, an increase of 300,000 euros compared to last year. This funding is earmarked for vehicle fleet upgrades and expanding services such as bulky waste and garden debris collection directly from homes.
The new system has already started in towns like Vinaixa and l'Espluga Calba, with les Borges Blanques scheduled to join on June 8. Local mayors have noted that while costs per household will rise, the system aims to meet the strict recycling standards set by the Catalan Waste Agency.

"Home collection will mean an increase of about 10 or 15 euros per household."
