The mayor of Tarrés, Carles Móra, resigned last Wednesday in the Garrigues region due to internal conflicts with Junts and ERC councilors over the management of local projects and funding.

Carles Móra, from the Endevat Tarrés-CM party, has left the mayoralty of Tarrés after months of internal tension. The municipal government, formed by a coalition between Junts and ERC since the 2023 elections, has been fragmented by disagreements over local project management.

"I decided to resign because the rest of the councilors threatened to return their certificates and leave en bloc, which would have meant the town being led by a management commission."

The main cause of the crisis was the funding for El Sindicat and the A cau de bosc green school. According to the former mayor, other councilors pushed to modify the contracts for these initiatives, claiming they received too much funding despite their positive impact on tourism.

"The goal of the new government team is not to close the Sindicat or make cuts to the school, although there are other important matters like infrastructure improvements."

Joan Palau · Acting Mayor of Tarrés
The vacancy left by Móra will be filled by Miguel Pueyo, a candidate from the PSC list. This is a unique situation, as it involves a so-called ghost list that only received one vote in the last elections. Meanwhile, Joan Palau has taken over as acting mayor.
This is the third mayoral resignation in the Lleida province in the last two months. Recently, Laura Tristan in Alt Àneu and Vanesa Olivart in Almacelles also left their positions, the latter for health reasons.
