The Regional Council of La Garrotxa has approved a new fare model for post-compulsory school transport, which will come into effect in the 2026-2027 academic year to promote equity among students.

The measure establishes a flat rate of 1.50 euros per trip, regardless of the route or the student's municipality of origin. The main objective of this initiative is to prevent geographical distance to educational centers from becoming an additional financial burden for families in La Garrotxa.
The new system will maintain existing discounts for families with multiple children in school. Thus, the cost for the second sibling will be one euro, while from the third onwards, the amount will be reduced to 0.50 euros.
According to estimates, the change will lead to significant annual savings for households located in more remote municipalities. In towns such as Oix or Sales de Llierca, the reduction in expenses could exceed 600 euros per academic year.

"We must work so that wherever families decide to live, it does not condition the educational opportunities of their children."
