The Department of Agriculture has launched a strategic project costing 200,000 euros to prevent fires and improve livestock management in the forests of Coll de Jou, El Pujol, and El Plujà, in Montagut i Oix.

The project, currently in the tendering phase, includes the repair of 8 kilometers of tracks, paving of sections with inclines, work on 10.68 kilometers of firebreaks along the edges of paths, the creation of five safety strips (3 hectares), six widenings for fire trucks, six passing places, the opening of two new paths (one kilometer each), and the installation of four fences to restrict access.
A key intervention will be the new track around Coll Pregon, which will improve the XV319 route. This path will reduce the arrival time for Firefighters and ensure the safe evacuation of residents. Access to this road will be restricted by fences to protect the Alta Garrotxa Natural Space from tourist overcrowding.
Beyond fire prevention, the initiative promotes extensive livestock farming as a tool to keep these forests socially vibrant and create landscapes more resilient to extreme weather phenomena.
This executive plan is part of a broader action. In the future, a 200 cubic meter water tank will be installed in the Pujol forest for fire trucks and helicopters, and road connections to the Vall de Sadernes will be completed.
