The Pau Costa Foundation will conduct a prescribed burn in the Serrat de les Ginebres, within the Protected Natural Area of Alta Garrotxa, during the first half of November. The objective is to reduce excess vegetation, create new open spaces to decrease the risk of forest fires, improve pasture areas, and favor biodiversity.
To inform about the intervention, an information session was held in the Council Chamber of the Vall de Bianya Town Hall. The meeting explained the objectives, planning, and execution of these actions, as well as their benefits for landscape management and habitat conservation.
“"It is the controlled use of fire. Specific objectives such as improving pastures or training operational teams are to be met"
The intervention will take place on a farm managed with extensive livestock farming, where mechanical work has been carried out in recent years to restore pastures. The prescribed burn will incorporate fire as a management tool to improve pasture quality and create new areas for livestock. Isabel Riera highlighted the importance of having the landscape prepared year-round in the face of climate change.
The action has been authorized by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Generalitat de Catalunya and will be carried out by specialized personnel from the company Forest4.
