A total of 762 students from ESO and Baccalaureate from 31 class groups in La Garrotxa have participated in the educational workshops 'We are landscape agents' offered by the Observatory of Landscape of Catalonia since 2024. The aim is for young people to become aware of the landscape and their active role in its transformation.

The Observatory of Landscape of Catalonia, attached to the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, has delivered the workshop 'We are landscape agents' since 2024 to 31 secondary and baccalaureate class groups in La Garrotxa, totaling 762 students. Councillor Sílvia Paneque highlighted that the initiative allows students to discover the landscape, its values, and the dynamics that currently affect it.
The ultimate goal is for students to become 'landscape agents', fostering an active and responsible attitude towards landscape transformations. "Understanding that the landscape is the result of the decisions we make as a society and that, therefore, we can play an active role in it," Paneque summarized.
To achieve this, students organize into groups to creatively solve challenges related to the landscape, such as the growth of a town, the location of renewable energy infrastructure, forest fire management, or improving communication infrastructure with minimal landscape impact. Laura Puigbert, head of the Observatory's educational activity, explains that "the challenges do not necessarily have a single solution, as students are encouraged to evaluate different alternatives and justify their decisions".
The activity combines 'learning by doing' with gamification, promoting decision-making, consequence assessment, and consideration of diverse viewpoints. The two-hour workshop takes place at the Observatory's technical headquarters in Olot and has been adapted for students with special educational needs. The offer is planned to be extended to other centers in Catalonia.
