City Football Group president Khaldoon Al Mubarak has stated that Girona FC is a fundamental part of the group and that the club's future plans remain unchanged despite their recent relegation to the Second Division.

One day after Girona FC's leadership analyzed the causes of their relegation to the Second Division, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, president of the City Football Group (CFG) and the club's majority shareholder with 47% of the shares, has sought to convey a message of calm and stability. Al Mubarak confirmed that the primary objective is a return to the First Division and that the relegation does not alter the ownership's commitment to the club's growth.
Speaking generally about the CFG's operations, Al Mubarak acknowledged that within the group, some teams perform better than others, which he considers inherent to the football business. He recognized that Girona's relegation was a significant blow but emphasized that it is now in the past and the focus must be on returning to LaLiga.
The CFG president highlighted Girona's importance within the group: "Girona is a fundamental part of the Group." He stressed that there is a clear vision for the club, both for its return to the top tier and for developing talent in the Catalonia region. Plans for the Academy project and stadium improvements remain intact.
Al Mubarak expressed confidence in the team's ability to turn the situation around: "We will succeed and bring them back. This summer we will do what is necessary and get this team back on the right track to return to LaLiga; it's only a matter of time."
